The High Country Motel has cabins and motel rooms, one with a fireplace. There are 4 units with kitchens, some queens, most have 2 double beds, clean, and comfortable right on US 212 in the middle of the beautiful Beartooth Mountains and just 4 miles from the northeast entrance to Yellowstone Park to the west and to the east, the scenic Beartooth Highway. Beautiful scenery with lots of fishing, hiking, or horseback riding nearby, snowmobiling and skiing right from your front door. We are a great place for all the family and open all year. You can use the High Country as your base for all other activities.
Established in the early 1880s, the town still has a rustic Old West atmosphere, which can be traced to its mining roots. Today, surrounded by national forest, wilderness and Yellowstone National Park, the area is an outdoor recreationist's dream. Impressive high mountain peaks and valleys abound.
Cooke City is an alpine village with snow much of the year. It is perhaps most famous for the road that connects Cooke City with Red Lodge. Called “the most scenic drive in America” by Charles Kuralt, the Beartooth Pass on U.S. Highway 212 has dramatic switchbacks traversing the spectacular Beartooth Range of south-central Montana.
